Sodje joined Macclesfield Town – whom he first played for between 1997 and 1999 – on Tuesday after he left cash strapped Bury FC in May.
The 40-year-old player was emotional on his departure to Bury but he is looking ahead to better days with The Silkmen.
“I joined Macclesfield, a club I first played for 15 years ago; they needed help and I had to come. Obviously we are starting from the scratch again but hopefully we will get there,” Sodje told our correspondent in a telephone interview.
“It was emotional leaving Bury because I had been there for five years. Managers pick the players they want and if you are not among them, you have to move on.”
Though unable to play in the glamorous English Premier League, Sodje has earned a reputation for himself playing in the lower leagues of English football.
The height of his career was when he was first called up to the Nigerian national team for the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria reached the final and then for the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan, where he played two group games against Argentina and England.
Sodje has been the fans delight wherever he played with his rugged but quality defending and versatility along with his bandana, which has the inscription, “Against All Odds.”
